About Us

Welcome to our cosy corner of creativity!

We are Sam and Becky, and together we’re a mother-daughter duo with a passion for bringing your unique designs to life. In our small studio, we specialise in sublimating your personalised artwork, designs and creations onto fabric and hard surfaces, transforming your ideas into beautiful clothing and home accessories.

So, when did it all begin?

Well I guess our Mother-Daughter story started in 1996 when I was born. But, in reality the routes of So Your Own can be traced back almost as far. In 2000 I designed trousers for the school's Wallace and Gromit’s Wrong Trousers Day. With very limited seamstress or creativity skills, Mum did her best to bring my drawing to life, so I could wear the trousers to school.

Skip forward a few years to when I started gymnastics (do you like the pun!) and my first competition leotard was made in our kitchen by my Grandma and my gym partner’s Mum. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of it that I can share on here, but if I find one, I'll definitely add it.

Upon reflection, I’m happy to say that I come from a line of women in our family who don't look for our limitations, but just opportunities to give something a go. Which, I guess, could be considered a blessing and a curse!

It somehow then makes sense that at the age of 15, I decided I would make my own prom dress having not found something I liked. However, I had also never really sewn anything myself before either. But, even if I do say so myself (in the humblest way possible), it turned out so well and I felt happy in it too.

Here I am wearing the prom dress surrounded by those very women I mentioned earlier <3

It was once I left school that I started designing leotards and also made my first competition leotards for our 12-18 women’s trio. From that point I was hooked, and creativity has played a major part in my career and spare time ever since.

I guess that sort of brings us to today and what we are hoping to achieve with So Your Own.

We've started this business together because we love spending time with each other and thrive on creating new things. I (Sam) will be taking the lead on all things creative, as well as social media. Mum (Becky) will focus more on the business side. However, inevitably, in a small business start up, we will each end up doing a little bit of all of it, I'm sure.

We have been working away for months testing fabrics, designing templates and working with wonderful collaborators to ensure we had the best products ready for our launch. We are proud of what we've achieved so far, for the lessons that we've learned along the way and how we still love working together.

One of our favourite books right now is 'Girls Can Do Anything!'* by Caryl Hart & Ali Pye. It was a thoughtful gift from my friend (who constantly proves that girls can do anything) for my Daughter's birthday. We love how fun and empowering it is for young girls. And even though we know that as girls we're fantastic, strong, brave and proud. Sometimes it is good to get that reminder!

We're excited to see what the future holds and to have you all along for the journey too. Our mission is to create items that make you feel comfortable, special, and uniquely you. Whether it's a custom piece of clothing that reflects your style or a home accessory that adds a personal touch to your space. The reason So Your Own exists is to help you to surround yourself with the things that make you feel great, so you can achieve greatness.

Thank you for being here with us and joining us on the So Your Own journey. Thank you for trusting us with your vision. We can't wait to create something unique and extraordinary together
